2 lbs top or bottom round
3 tbsp butter
2 tbsp bacon or salt pork, diced
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 medium onion, chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
Sprinkle of mixed spice
2 cups dry red wine

Cooking Instructions

Place all the ingredients except the wine in a heavy pan.
Brown well with cover on, turning the meat occasionally.
After 30 minutes, add the wine.
Cover and simmer for approximately 2 1/2 hours or until beef is tender.
Serve with risotto or noodles.
Serves 4 to 6.
