2 tsp black treacle (molasses)
2 small oranges, peeled and cut into thin slices
2 tbsp soft brown sugar
110g softened butter
110g caster (berry) sugar
1 egg, lightly whisked
175g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground cloves
200ml buttermilk

Cooking Instructions

Preheat ovento 180C.
Lightly butter a small (18cm) round ovenproof dish or cake tin.
Spread the treacle over the bottom.
Arrange the orange slices over the treacle and sprinkle them with the soft brown sugar.
Beat the butter and caster sugar together until light and fluffy
Beat in the egg.
Stir in the dry ingredients alternately with th buttermilk.
Spoon over the oranges and bake for 1 hour.
Cool a little and the turn out onto a large serving plate.
Serve hot with custard or cream.
