Dough:
2 cup Flour
4 tsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Cream of tartar
2 tsp Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
2/3 cup Butter
2/3 cup Milk

Filling:
4 Apples, Pealed, cored and chopped
2 Tbs Raisins (optional)
3 Tbs Nuts (optional)

Syrup:
2 Cups Brown Sugar
1 Cup Water

Cooking Instructions

Preheat oven to 425 F
In a large bowl sift dry ingredients together.
With a pastry blender, cut in butter until size of peas.
Make a well in the dry ingredients.
Pour all the milk into the well at once.
Stir with a fork until dough is stiff and follows fork.
On a lightly floured surface knead dough twelve times.
Pat and roll out into a large rectangle.
Cut dough into 6-8 squares.
Top each square with apples, raisins and nuts.
Fold corners in and seal.
Place each dumpling into a 9 inch square baking pan.
Make syrup by bringing brown sugar and water to a boil.
Pour syrup around dumplings in baking pan.
Bake for forty minutes at 425 F.
